The Operating Life Formula (OLF)

5 Areas for Balance

The Operating Life Formula was first devised by our friend and business mentor James Simms as part of an extensive business training course known as Business by Design. The copyright in this material is still owned by James, who has kindly allowed us to adapt it for use with this program. This follows the major premise of our work, adapting corporate leadership training to assist GM&F’s to govern their households more successfully.

The diagram below is a simplified version of what is the very heart of Business by Design. This will help you see which areas of your life you should be allocating time and attention to if you wish to run a more balanced and stress free life.

Most people make the mistake of expecting that area 1 & 2 will provide all of their families physical and emotional needs. The truth is that without the extra income provided by areas 3, 4 and 5, most families will either struggle with poverty or area 1 will take vital time away from area 2.

Most families struggle setting boundaries between area 1 and area 2 bringing work and it’s associated stresses home.

Opening up all areas creates balance, prosperity and enjoyment, but also requires leadership and responsible management.

Kim is the author of seven books on the topic of relationships and emotional intelligence.

A prolific multi-media content innovator, Kim has created and shared a library of articles and multi-media educational tools including radio shows,
movies and poetry on 'The NC Marriage', and 'The Love Safety Net'.
