It leads into a topic that can be tough for us narcissistic types to talk about, and that is (drum roll) . . .<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Taking ourselves too seriously<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I can tell jokes and love being the life of the party, sure, but it&#8217;s true I need to work harder at relaxing and laughing with my family too.<\/p>\n<p>I also need to remember not to take things personally and get defensive, especially when someone\u00a0 in my family just has a different opinion to me.<\/p>\n<p>There is a saying which goes;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Win the connection not the argument.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Taking ourselves too seriously is a sign of weakness, not of strength.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Your exercise from this is pretty simple:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I wonder if you can start work on creating an environment in your home that allows time and space for you to laugh together?<\/p>\n<p>If you have trouble with this, perhaps you need to sit quietly for a while and watch others socialize.<\/p>\n<p>Are there people around you might learn from just by watching and then imitating them?<\/p>\n<p>The bravest thing of all to do would be to ask for help from your spouse:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Admit to your partner that you have seen the need to take yourself less seriously and that you want to learn to relax and be able to laugh at yourself.<\/li>\n<li>Then take one step further and admit you are embarrassed about this.<\/li>\n<li>It is a tough thing to do, but will just about always make the other person warm to you.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Got any Questions?
