‘Happily Ever After’ and the ‘Natural Law’ of Virtues
Watching TV and movies or looking at magazines, the internet or newspapers for any amount of time could easily make you think that being ready for love is about what car you drive, what deodorant you use, the night clubs you frequent, the designer labels you wear, what credit cards you carry in your wallet, being into the right music and/or following the winning sports teams.
While all of these things may be a part of modern courtship ritual and do something to express who you are, they will do nothing to prepare you for the happily ever after of committed love and family life. If you are a man you might be deceived into thinking that you will somehow maintain a family while appearing to the world as ‘perennially single’.
This mistake, while understandable and even forgivable, will lead to heartache and a long hard grind of a home life for yourself and your future family. It is a mistake that can cause generations of despair.
In reality, a man’s true castle (and satisfaction in life) is still as the head of a happy, healthy and prosperous family with a committed wife/partner sharing authority (equally) at his side.
To accomplish this, both partners will need to practice a hat full of life’s virtues!
You may try to avoid these practices and still expect happiness and prosperity to come your way but you might also try jumping out of a twelve-story window and expect to fly! This is because a solid and prosperous family is the natural result of practicing these virtues. Just as destitution and despair are the result of practicing vices such as: alcoholism, drug addiction and other poor personal habits. Practicing virtue, takes self control and commitment but the rewards are great and cannot be bought with money (or charged to a credit card)!
These ideas might sound old fashioned but just try living without these virtues and see where life takes you . . .
Not many people worth knowing will care to follow you!
Note: Success is built on practicing life’s virtues and, just like gravity, this operates regardless of our cultural or religious beliefs. Take honesty for example, someone who is honest will come to be trusted. Hence, will earn freedom, respect and responsibility. Whereas, someone who is dishonest will be distrusted and may eventually have their freedom so limited that they find themselves in jail!
