The Best Life Hack Ever

Like many women and men, I have struggled for most of my life to find the right diet.

My father was an Osteopath who was very interested in nutrition, so I suppose it was inevitable I would finally find Dr Eric Berg—a chiropractor who now focuses wholly on helping people get their diet sorted out for health, longevity and weight. He has also been a great role model for me for where it might be possible to take my work.

Keto Done Right

I always knew that Keto was prone to cause people to become potassium deficient. I have tried keto many times but after a month or so would start feeling unwell.  I felt like I needed to pee all the time, but then could only manage a few drops. I knew this was not a good sign. Supplementing with potassium always messed me up.

Like many women my age, Keto helped with my hunger but didn’t really help me drop a lot of weight.

I was encouraged when seeing that Dr Berg focussed heavily on our need for potassium when losing weight. I am amazed I never figured out myself that leafy greens are the answer. I always thought of potassium as potatoes and bananas. It turns out beet tops are the very best source!

Less is More

Using Dr Berg’s fantastic suggestions, I still found Keto time-consuming to research and put into practice. Cooking for a family is very involved. I believe in following an ancestral diet and make homemade bone broth every week. I feel it important to cook most meals from scratch. Meat is expensive and takes a lot of kitchen hygiene and care.

When busy it has also been difficult to keep take away and junk food out of our life.

My work involves writing and talking to people, which requires a lot of uninterrupted time. Something in my life had to give.

I then found this incredible interview with Dr Fung, which finally provided the answer to the biggest questions I am facing in my life: how to look after myself and my family, while also finding the extra time and money I need to take my work to the level it deserves.

The answer was there all along. It is for everyone and completely free. It is not about doing more but doing less.

Fasting will—from now on—become the central strategy of my life.

Rather than scare me I am elated. It solves all of my problems at once:

  1. Lose weight easily and safely.
  2. Save an enormous amount of time and money.
  3. Protective from cancer, diabetes and heart disease.
  4. Major added clarity and focus to work on my goals.
  5. Feeling confident that I am in control of my weight.
  6. Feeling less needy and that I can really depend on myself.

Full Steam Ahead

Thanks for everyone’s patience with me over the last few years. I had a lot to get sorted out in my life. This has included my own PTSD. I am better now and Steve and I are finally in a good place to do our online work. The coronavirus made that much harder than we thought it would be. In the end, it has pushed us to set up our lives much better than we would have without those challenges.

Finally, I know how I will find what I need to get the publishing deal I have worked for and that I know that my work deserves. Thanks to everyone who has supported that goal.

Essential Viewing

I think this interview with Dr Fung is one everyone should watch. It is about health and beauty but also about life. I haven’t got through all of it yet. It is long but well worth whatever time you can give to watch.

There is nothing to sign up for or buy. Quite the opposite, it may just set you free…

When you are in a troubled marriage it can be easy to focus on what you need more of instead of downsizing to fighting trim. Setting your family life in order will probably be the biggest battle of your life.

What really matters in your life right now?

Let’s get hungry, protective of our young and focussed as wolves and start building the lives (and world) we really want:

As the interview in this next movie is with a single man it may seem slightly off-topic. Still, I found his focus on simplicity mind-blowing. This was definitely the advice I needed. My meals might not be quite as simple as his from now on, but it really gives the message that less is more:

The only thing I will add is that eating greens does not take your body out of autophagy (See Dr Fung’s movie for more details). I have a big salad garden now and consider eating greens from it fine when I am fasting. No plates or cooking. Just pick, rinse and eat.

Please add your experiences and knowledge – but for our own schedules let’s keep this as simple as we can.
